Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team might be building a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
